Cold rain had been falling all day on the scores of Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) who had bused from Florida to New York for a week-long protest outside Wendy’s Park Avenue corporate building. Although Burger King, McDonald’s, Subway, Chipotle, and Yum Brands (Taco Bell and KFC), had all signed on to CIW’s Fair Food Program, Wendy’s refused. For years, the Florida campaign has fought for Wendy’s to commit to decent conditions for farm workers.
The El Salvador regime, financed and armed by Washington, waged a relentless war to defeat an insurgency that was demanding democracy and rights. On this sweltering night in 1989, civilians fleeing the military’s “Final Offensive” sheltered in a crowded San Salvador hall. Many had lost loved ones to fighting and prison. And now, it was all ending in pain and defeat.
Oh so sad, never go to Wendy’s.
First, thanks for the information about Wendy's.
Second, what stands out to me in these photos in the eyes. Pain and endurance. You caught them.
