Final: Born in a manger / asleep in a manger
Sorry for multiples. I screwed up by erasing the post when i corrected it. This is the one.
Merry Christmas to all Christians by birth, culture, or inclination who celebrate the day. Good cheer, good food, and good luck finding a world of peace and love.
And Happy New York Jewish Christmas to all who get the subdued city to themselves and celebrate with that ancient traditional ritual: a Chinese restaurant and a movie. Below: the old Jing Fong on Elizabeth St.—with the backwards mile-high escalators. My old friend Pat wrote to remind me that it wasn’t the illness of Covid, but the disease of greed that killed the beloved dimsum palace.
“Jin Fong closed permanently not because of Covid, but because of the evil landlord, biggest in Chinatown, managed to use Covid as an excuse to get rid of the largest—and the only—unionized restaurant in the neighborhood.”
So here’s to the workers—the ones who build and maintain our “mangers.”
