This week-long Animal Portrait series started with Peter Hujar’s Scruffy Dog paired with Scruffy Cat. So, coming round, here’s Richard Avedon’s portrait of Mike Nichols with Hooligan the cat. Could be twins, dontcha think.
I am struck by the posed (affected?) confidence of the man and the absolutely unaffected confidence of the cat. Was Avedon trying to capture that? Were you?
