It is one of my best street photography ploys: Ask people if I can photograph the things they are proud of: their skills, their tattoos, their animals. Of course, it is generally the people themselves I am most captivated by—that and their unguarded pleasure in sharing the object (l’objet) of their affection. And there is something so endearing about big guys with little dogs.
The top photo was on a street in southern France, where I was a happy flanneur. The one below it, taken almost exactly one year ago, was in a Central Vermont shelter for people whose homes, businesses, and farms had been devastated by the floods. There was an annex specially for animals.
And now rain, as if from overturned buckets, is falling, and once again flooding is predicted. So I’ll send this off now in case we lose power.
The view from my door:
Love these, men and their doggies.
Great photos and yeah, rugged men who love their pups are very endearing. My husband and his dog have quite the love affair but his dog is a big boy. As a puppy he was a maniac so we called him a velocipuppy. Gratefully he has become a great dog we all adore but he loves Matt so much it’s funny.
Pls send that rain to the mid Atlantic states. We are well below our normal rainfall again this year and there are a lot of farmers here who had crops die in the fields last summer. It’s not quite as bad this year but if it doesn’t turn around soon it will be another disaster.
