Just one photo today - the most popular one I have ever posted. “Why?” you ask in bewilderment, would anyone search out this unremarkable (at best) shot. Well, read on.
The photo lives on my Flickr site, which I’ve used for years to share images of political, cultural, community, and social events. It’s also somewhere I can post current work without the formality and maintenance of a website. I select some images because they are good. Others might be useful to the people and groups photographed. And few are just for fun, like this one of a public toilet on the island of Grenada. I liked it because of the courtesy to the students; the fact that, unlike in most of the US, there really was a public toilet; and I was amused by the sign:
“ATTENTION 50¢ is charge for each use of this facility
SCHOOL CHILDREN IN UNIFORM FREE.”
My mistake was titling the photo “Kids Pee Free.” As it drew hit after hit, I was at first mystified. Then it became obvious that people were actually searching for photos of children urinating.
The photo has now been up for a dozen or so years, and creeps are still clicking on it every day, making it (sadly) my most popular shot. By far.
Every so often, repulsed and dispirited, I consider taking it down, but truth is, I like the idea of disappointing the perverts with a bad shot of a homely building.
Oy!
What a strange and miserable story of this photo. I do appreciate your sense of tiny comeuppance for pedophiles in disappointing their sick desires.
