Top: Korea was a poor country in 1974 as it slowly recovered from war. At 8pm, if I remember the time correctly, a curfew fell on Seoul and normal life stopped; everyone had to be back in their homes as tanks rolled down the city streets. In those days, amusements were simple. This toy horse cart for kids was unironically drawn by a man; he likely earned little from the venture.
Middle: Sit on the horse, insert a coin in the slot and a New York city kid could bounce gleefully for a few minutes, pretending to be a cowpoke roaming the range. Hopefully the horse draws more of his attention than the posters around it, which offer a different brand of play.
Bottom: Riding valiantly to protect human rights and freedom, the mighty mounts of Bread and Puppet Theater trot across a natural amphitheater where the summer circus has entertained Vermont kids and adults alike for decades.
Wonderful! I love seeing bits of amazing travel history!
