One of the lovely things about Laos in 2006 was the proliferation of traditional crafts. Instead of polluting, disposable plastic junk, often manufactured under terrible working conditions, there were handwoven baskets that served as everything from trashcans to food and produce containers. And these sturdy, luminous umbrellas.
In New York City, at the first sprinkle of rain, hawkers pop up on the street offering umbrellas for a few dollars. Then it’s a race between losing them to forgetfulness or a stiff breeze.
Especially crap! Laos is lovely,NY a mess!
