The cats are especially elegant. But the top row, second from left--Is that a selfie? lol

The bear is my favorite. Haven’t been to a zoo since I was a child. Though they serve a rehab/preservation function, I’m conflicted about them.

yes, me too. when i lived in DC, not far from the zoo, i awoke to the distant sound of the chimps in conversation. more pleasant than many dc vocalizations.

I hate to see animals in the zoo, pacing in their cages even though I have been assured that they are well taken care of. I am totally against the buying and selling of animals and when I go to an animal shelter, I want to take home more than one or two. Maybe I'm a bleeding heart, but seeing all the abandoned animals, those found in dumpsters, etc., the zoos and circuses seem to treasure their charges. This subject makes me feel extremely conflicted.

yes. that's true. none of the animals here are caged [suppose the snakes are, but good!). the enclosures are many acres with trees, rocks and streams etc. but still, it is sad to see. some of the animals are rescues unable to survive the wild. when one big cat yawned you could see its canines were broken stubs. but the pacing was there and the sadness at seeing the lack of freedom and boredom.
