This brought back memories of taking my son for haircuts.
He cried at the first one.
Then in elementary school those lightning bolts on the sides were popular and he was psyched to show them off. A year later a different style was in vogue and while he wasn’t some particularly fashion conscious kid, hair was different.
Good memories. Thanks for sharing your great pics and for the trip down memory lane they inspired.
So do you get permission after the fact or is it ok for you to shoot and go? I once was walking with a friend in nyc and a photog asked for permission and wanted us to walk past her but the moment had gone and it felt staged. But if she had taken the shot and then a model release we would have signed and it would have been a better shot
I sometimes ask, I sometimes just shoot. It is always legal and often ethical to photograph people in a public place--where they have "no expectation of privacy." I was helped by the NY ACLU to quash a subpoena the cops gave me for photographing in the subway after 9/11. (It's perfectly legal.) In these barbershop pics, the people knew i was taking their photos, and while i spotted them thru the window, I actually took the photos inside. I have never asked for a model release, which is needed the pics for commercial uses--like ads.

Sounds like a great kid. Lightning bolts, eh?
Thanks for a lift of gorgeous fun!
That barber is something else!
Oh, yeah!
Wow, that Brooklyn photo is eye-stopping spectacular. Thanks!
Lucky shot. I was just walling by.
The manhattan one is interesting but the brooklyn one is sublime....the red accents and highlight on his blue eye 👍
Lcuky shot. I was walking by and spotted him thru the window.

Thanks! That clarifies this issue a lot!
Thank you for the comforting words. I'm still waiting.
