Yes! And i just searched for and found a photo of the building as it is now...400 W 14th st. It's fancy but i don't think it's better. I am glad to be out of that.

I love your writing as much as your photo choices. "...curls around the Mekong like a sleeping cat."

I worked at a store catering to drag queens and trans peeps of all kinds called Lee's Mardi Gras in the meatpacking district in the 80s. Quiet by day, alive at night. It was very low key with no signage. Even then, it was on the second floor and customers were escorted up in the elevator by one of us so we could monitor who was arriving. It was one of the most interesting jobs with a super boss.

Cacophonous schmatas! That tickled the shards of New Yorker left in me. Love your pics and words.

Thanks so much. I had to look up how to spell cacophonous, but shmata spelled itself.

I love looking at high fashion but the Laotian women are totally classy and I want to dress just like them.

Me, too. I check out the best/worst for the awards shows; the clothes are extravagant as are the wearers, but I cant imagine (without horror) me or anyone I know donning anything like that. and the cost!
