Thanks. That would make sense. On an autumn night one would expect that the soil would be warmer than the air above so the water vapor in the ground will evaporate. Once in the air it is super-cooled because even though the air is below freezing, the liquid or vapor has no surface on which to nucleate. When, however, it reaches the edges of the leaves, the crystallization process begins.
Such beautiful words, Terry…and hoarfrost captured. I love going out in a morning frozen on every twig and leaf, birds yelling at me to feed them…magical.
It's amazing how a tiny seed crystal serves as the base for extended crystal growth. such processes occur not only with water-->ice, but also with minerals like aluminum oxide-->sapphire. (I refer to the good stuff, not the crummy dug-ups).
Love it!!
Thank you.
These are exquisite, Terry. Thank you!
Thanks. Hard to miss with gorgeous hoarfrost.
Beautiful!
Thenks. it is a wonder.

Too few birds, these days. Gonna have to get the feeder out.
What is the name of the leaf? Exquisite!
It is, but I don't know. what kind.

I read up on hoarfrost and discovered the moisture to form it rises from the ground.
Nonstop talent, Terry, pouring out of your pores.
thanks. lol.
That second picture is totally incredible...and in two degrees it is gone.
i am always captured by hoarfrost. such improbability, such brevity. Like us.
Lovely photos and words 💙
Thank you.
