I lived in Bangor and did not know this part of monhegan island history. Thanks! But the reputation of Gowanus has been etched in lifelong memory, as persistent as the toxins in the canal.

I kinda love the Monhegan story. Altho I really enjoy that deer roam free, I truly HATE Lyme and how it has impacted my ability to do so.

Yes i feel that way about west nile. I am in colorado where that is the thing to avoid getting. I have had it twice and would be first in line for a vaccine!

Visited Monhegan before all this! What a treat it was! Nobody knew much about Lyme back then! The good old days- not!

Lyme-carrying ticks rode to Vermont on climate change, so it may have been that winter cold keep them away in Monhegan, too, when you went.
