Living in Latin America, selling food at bus stops, walking around the streets, etc. was a common practice. And almost always by women, carrying their goods on their heads and accompanied by at least one child. I found the juxtaposition hard, because I am too judgmental: treating dogs like children doesn't work for me.
i saw more latinas with candy today at a different stop, so i suspect this is an organized thing. i wonder if the vendors are being exploited by only getting to keep a fraction of the sales.
I bet there is more than a " touch"of sarcasm in Terry saying "cute " to describe the dog in a baby carriage . Translated -- It is Disgusting that some people have enough $ to buy their dog a carriage/ it is way more Disgusting that mothers and children have to sell candy in crowded train stations so they have enough food to eat and and maybe even a place to live.
