When the description in a review lets you know absolutely positively that you don't want to watch, read, eat, or come anywhere near the item reviewed. Here are some of those gathered phrases.
Agreed! Thanks Terry. Sometimes it is hard to know what a man means when he uses the word feminist, so my mistrust flared its (not so ugly) head. I only engage with feminist men, actually, and have said that on a dating app, haha.
It’s just a bit vague, I suppose. Not sure why either object to Princess Diana, Christmas, yes! Hilarity ensues, not clear. I can pick others too, but I think maybe just I’m not on the same channel shall we say. The feminist part is tricky though, the word is used too flippantly often and I think using it as a source of humor can backfire, especially if the intention isn’t clear. Hard to illustrate the nuances of my discomfort in a message, but I appreciate your openness to hearing my thoughts! I like that you make me think, and I really enjoy your posts!
It's not so much that I object {dont want to watch or read about] to Diana as I do to the media representations and obsessions with celebrities who are celebrities because they are celebrities. Altho I do find Diana a boring, self-obsessed, over-privileged twit who imagined that her life and suffering were so much worse the truly disadvantaged and hopeless. As for Christmas--have you ever seen a movie about christmas that didnt make your teeth ache with its bland sweetness? Hence I claim my curmudgeonliness. As for feminist--It's a good word and I am proud to be one. The "humor" is calling out all the toxic bro-bullshit that Hollywood just loves and that feeds sales, violence, and glib dismissal of women.
And to you, too. Thanks for engaging. I appreciate your comments and the back an forth.
Well, I am both, I guess. I thought the list was very curmudgeonly -- e.g. avoiding anything abt Princess Diana?? And feminist--the aoidance of violence, especially against women and macho-bro stupidity like almost anything by Seth Rogan. Can you tell me why it doesnt work for you, please?
That’s so funny, I assumed you were a guy all this time, my bad I suppose! Good to chat, Terry!

GOOD instinct, but FYI, I am a woman -- despite the spelling of my last name.
I meant my first name. doh!

I'm never going to Taiwan!
Another strike against it: The road was built by native slave labor when Japan ruled the island during its pre-WW2 imperialist rampages across Asia.
Terry,
I don’t get the title, curmudgeons and feminists?

You're up early. Great photos as usual.
